Pudding Isopods (Armadillidium klugii)

Origins: A. klugii were originally collected in the Balkan regions of Europe in a country called Montenegro. They are a medium-sized isopod species named after their colorful spotted patterns. Though each klugii has unique characteristics most feature white and yellow spots which led to their colorful common name "Clowns". Our Pudding isopods are morphs of the Montenegro Clown line; however they dropped their reddish skirts.

Habitat: Prefer a dryer semi-arid warm environment overall (73-78°F).  They may have issues molting in tropical environments. With any isopod, please ensure they have adequate humidity (50%+) while maintaining ventilation. Recommended substrate depth 2-3". Prefers Cork Bark for hides.

We recommend this species for beginner keepers, and arid environments.

Food: As with most isopod species their main source of diet should be lots of leaf litter, decaying wood, and calcium supply. Supplement with organic fresh veggies & protein. Clowns might appreciate a higher proportion supplemental protein and calcium in their diets. (We like to eat soft plants)

Reproduction: Often slow to reproduce in new cultures. They do tend to produce more at warmer temperatures.

Restrictions: Due to state permitting requirements, we are not allowed to ship these isopods to Florida.
