Our leaf litter is collected from untreated sources and prepared for use in bioactive setups. Because these are natural, seasonal materials, leaf size, color, texture, aroma, and availability may vary by batch.

Which Leaves Should I Choose?

Different leaf varieties offer different shapes, textures, durability, and decomposition rates. There is no single “best” leaf litter—mixing varieties can create a more diverse and natural forest-floor layer.

• Oak — Durable and slower to break down, making it useful for long-lasting coverage and structure.
• Maple — Softer and generally quicker to break down than oak, providing a more readily available food source.
• Magnolia — Thick, sturdy leaves that hold their shape well and create excellent hiding places and surface structure.
• Grapevine — Thin, irregular leaves that tend to break down relatively quickly and add texture and variety.
• Mulberry — Softer leaves that work well for feeding and adding botanical variety.
• Alder — Moderately soft with a useful balance of food value, coverage, and breakdown.
• Ash — A thinner leaf that adds diversity and tends to break down more readily than heavier leaves.
• Linden — Soft, lightweight leaves that add variety and are useful for faster decomposition.
• Birch — Thin and delicate, making it a good option for quicker breakdown and surface coverage.
• Poplar — Lightweight, broad leaves that provide good coverage with moderate breakdown.
• The Blend — Our premium rotating mix of available varieties, designed to provide a combination of textures, shapes, decomposition rates, and feeding opportunities.

Build Your Own Blend

For greater variety, choose two or more individual leaf types and mix them together. Combining slower-lasting leaves such as Oak or Magnolia with softer, faster-breaking varieties such as Maple, Mulberry, Birch, or Linden can create a more balanced and naturalistic leaf layer.

If you prefer the convenience of a ready-made mix, choose The Blend. Each batch may contain a different combination of available leaf species, shapes, colors, and textures depending on current inventory. The exact mix is not guaranteed.

Natural Aroma

Some varieties may have a mild natural earthy, woody, or dried-botanical aroma. Scent strength varies by leaf type, age, dryness, storage, and batch and is not guaranteed.

• 1 Gallon Bag — A larger supply for established enclosures, multiple bins, routine maintenance, or building your own blend.
• 4 Gallon Case — Bulk leaf litter for breeders, larger collections, multi-enclosure setups, or customers who want to stock up.

Leaf litter is sold by approximate volume. Because leaf species naturally vary in thickness, shape, density, moisture content, and how tightly they settle during packing and shipping, actual leaf count and net leaf weight will vary by variety and package.
