Dwarf White Isopods (Trichorhina tomentosa)
Dwarf White Isopods (Trichorhina tomentosa)
Dwarf White Isopods for sale!
Origins: Dwarf Whites are native to Central and South America and are extremely popular for homemade micro-habitats. They are soft-bodied, low maintenance, and shy creatures that tend to burrow under the moist substrate. You can keep them in the same enclosures as invertebrates, reptiles, and amphibians. How small are they? Smaller than a grain of rice. They have proved to be a good Clean-Up Crew.
We don’t recommend mixing isopods, especially these ones. They have been known to take over and wipe out other colonies and earned the nickname “The Devil’s Rice”. WASH HANDS VERY WELL AFTER HANDLING! QUARANTINE from other tubs (often in other room), parthogenic - WILL OUTCOMPETE MOST OTHER SPECIES!
Recommended use: Crested Gecko, Dart Frog enclosures.
Habitat: They thrive in moderate to high humidity ranges with tropical temperatures between 70-78°F. Recommended substrate depth 3-4".
Food: As with most isopod species their main source of diet should be lots of leaf litter, decaying wood, and calcium supply. They love protein!
Reproduction: High reproductive rates. Fun Fact: Dwarf Whites are parthenogenetic, which means the female can get pregnant without a male’s fertilization.
