Dwarf White Isopods for Sale (Trichorhina tomentosa)
Small. Mighty. Slightly terrifying.
Dwarf Whites are smaller than a grain of rice, soft-bodied, low maintenance, and shy. They spend most of their time burrowing under moist substrate, quietly cleaning up after everyone else. You can keep them in the same enclosures as invertebrates, reptiles and amphibians, and they're a favorite for crested gecko and dart frog setups.
But they come with a warning label. They've been known to take over and wipe out other isopod colonies, which earned them the nickname "The Devil's Rice."
WASH HANDS VERY WELL AFTER HANDLING! QUARANTINE from other tubs (ideally in another room), parthenogenetic - WILL OUTCOMPETE MOST OTHER SPECIES! We don't recommend mixing isopods, especially these ones.
Origin: Native to Central and South America and extremely popular for homemade micro-habitats.
HPI Preferred Habitat Targets: 72–80°F; supporting relative humidity around 80–95%; keep essentially the full lower substrate consistently moist, with deep contact moisture and continuous gas exchange. The substrate should stay damp but never waterlogged or stagnant. These burrowing isopods do best in moisture-heavy tropical setups.
Recommended use: Crested Gecko, Dart Frog enclosures.
Diet: As with most isopod species, their main diet should be lots of leaf litter, decaying wood and a calcium supply. They love protein!
Reproduction: High reproductive rates. Fun Fact: Dwarf Whites are parthenogenetic, which means the female can get pregnant without a male’s fertilization.
Ordering: Priced per isopod, with a minimum of 3 per species. Thanks to that fun fact above, a few go a long way. Bulk discounts apply automatically.
