Orange Clown Isopods (Armadillidium klugii)

Orange Clown Isopods for Sale (Armadillidium klugii)

A rare twist on a favorite. Orange Clowns are a light orange morph of Armadillidium klugii, dotted with white-ish yellow spots that give them a playful, polka-dot look. Like all Clowns, every individual's pattern is a little different.

These good-looking pods love the underside of cork bark and, once settled in, they breed very well. A group of them on dark wood is hard to stop looking at.

Origin: A. klugii come from the Balkan region of Europe. Orange Clowns are a color morph of the species.

HPI Preferred Habitat Targets: 72–78°F; supporting relative humidity around 50–70%; keep roughly one-quarter to one-third of the substrate consistently moist while allowing the remainder to stay progressively drier, with strong ventilation. Maintain a dependable moist retreat for hydration and molting, but avoid uniformly wet conditions. Recommended substrate depth 2-3". Cork bark makes a useful hide. Well suited to warmer, well-ventilated setups that provide both a dependable moist retreat and a genuine drier zone.

Diet: As with most isopod species, their main diet should be lots of leaf litter, decaying wood and a calcium supply. Supplement with organic fresh veggies and protein. Clowns might appreciate a higher proportion of supplemental protein and calcium in their diets.

Reproduction: Often slow to reproduce in new cultures. They do tend to produce more at warmer temperatures.

Perfect For: Collectors, display enclosures, and Clown fans looking for a rarer color.

Ordering: Priced per isopod, with a minimum of 3 per species, perfect for adding new genetics to an existing colony. Starting a new colony? We recommend 6–20 (see How Many Isopods Should I Get?). Bulk discounts apply automatically.

Restrictions: Due to state permitting requirements, we are not allowed to ship these isopods to Florida.
