Montenegro Clown Isopods for Sale (Armadillidium klugii)
Clowns earn their name honestly. Each Armadillidium klugii is decorated with bright white and yellow spots, and no two have quite the same pattern. Our Montenegro Clowns add one more flourish: a reddish skirt around the lower rim of the shell, a classic trait of their original locale.
They're medium-sized, roll into a ball like any good roly-poly, and look fantastic on a piece of cork bark. They like it a little warmer and drier than many species, so they're a great fit for well-ventilated setups.
Origin: A. klugii were originally collected in the Balkan region of Europe, in Montenegro.
HPI Preferred Habitat Targets: 72–78°F; supporting relative humidity around 50–70%; keep roughly one-quarter to one-third of the substrate consistently moist while allowing the remainder to stay progressively drier, with strong ventilation. Maintain a dependable moist retreat for hydration and molting, but avoid uniformly wet conditions. Recommended substrate depth 2-3". Cork bark makes a useful hide. Well suited to warmer, well-ventilated setups that provide both a dependable moist retreat and a genuine drier zone.
Diet: As with most isopod species, their main diet should be lots of leaf litter, decaying wood and a calcium supply. Supplement with organic fresh veggies and protein. Clowns might appreciate a higher proportion of supplemental protein and calcium in their diets. (We like to eat soft plants.)
Reproduction: Often slow to reproduce in new cultures. They do tend to produce more at warmer temperatures.
Perfect For: Collectors, display enclosures, and keepers ready for a species that rewards a little patience.

Restrictions: Due to state permitting requirements, we are not allowed to ship these isopods to Florida.

Many isopod distributors offer starter cultures of specific counts (5, 6, 8, 10 counts, etc.). We have found that some clients want 1 isopod while others prefer 20+. We have made the decision to sell isopods on a per price basis to assist with your custom-built starter cultures.

- When sending 'Live Animals' we may delay your shipment due to Holiday schedules, weather conditions at your location or ours, or other.
