Where We Ship: Live Isopods & Springtails by State

Live isopods and springtails, shipped to your door anywhere in the contiguous U.S.

We ship captive-bred isopods and springtails from our home base in Southern California to all 48 contiguous states, under our USDA permits and backed by our Live Arrival Guarantee. What changes from state to state is how we ship, and in a couple of states, which species we can send. Here's the quick rundown.

Shipping options by region

California, Arizona, Nevada and Oregon

Our closest neighbors get the most choices: UPS Ground, UPS 2nd Day Air and UPS Next Day Air. Ground is short enough from here to be safe for live animals.

Live in Southern California? Qualifying orders of $25 or more can choose free Local Pickup at checkout.

Every other contiguous state

Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

Live animals to these states ship UPS 2nd Day Air or UPS Next Day Air. Ground just takes too long for little critters, so we keep them on the fast lane.

Alaska and Hawaii

We can't ship live animals to Alaska or Hawaii. Good news: supplies (substrate, leaf litter, feeding dishes and more) ship there by USPS Ground Advantage.

States with species restrictions

Florida and Louisiana restrict certain isopod species. Checkout will stop you before you order something we can't send, but here's the list so there are no surprises.

Florida: these species can't ship

  • Armadillidium klugii (Clown, Orange Clown, Pudding, Skeleton and other klugii morphs)
  • Armadillidium maculatum (Zebra, Yellow Zebra, Chocolate Zebra)
  • Armadillidium nasatum (Nasatum, Nasatum "Pearl")
  • Porcellio dilatatus (Giant Canyon)

Louisiana: these species can't ship

  • Armadillidium nasatum (Nasatum, Nasatum "Pearl")
  • Porcellio dilatatus (Giant Canyon)
  • Porcellio laevis (Dairy Cow, Caramel, Milkback, Orange Laevis, White Laevis)
  • Porcellio scaber (Lava, Dalmatian, Orange Koi, Lottery Mix, Spanish Orange, Orin's Calico)

Everything else, including our Cubaris, Porcellionides and springtails, can ship to both states.

Weather matters everywhere

Whether you're in a desert, a snow belt or somewhere humid enough to grow mushrooms on your mailbox, we pack for the conditions and hold shipments when the weather says no. Read Shipping Live Isopods in Hot and Cold Weather to see what to expect where you live.

Where we ship FAQ

Do you ship isopods to Texas?

Yes. Live isopods and springtails ship to Texas by UPS 2nd Day Air or Next Day Air.

Can you ship isopods to Florida?

Yes, most of them. A few species can't go to Florida (see the list above). Cubaris, Porcellionides, Porcellio laevis, Porcellio scaber and springtails can.

Can you ship isopods to Louisiana?

Yes, with a few exceptions. Porcellio laevis, Porcellio scaber, Armadillidium nasatum and Porcellio dilatatus can't ship to Louisiana. Our other species can.

Do you ship isopods to New York, Illinois or other cold states?

Yes. We ship to every contiguous state year-round when conditions are safe, and we pack for the cold. In a deep freeze we may hold your order until it's safe to ship.

Do you ship to Alaska, Hawaii or outside the U.S.?

Live animals ship only within the contiguous U.S. Supplies can ship to Alaska and Hawaii.

When do live animals ship?

Live animals ship on Tuesdays so packages don't sit in a carrier facility over the weekend. See our shipping and LAG details for the full schedule.
